Best Mexican Food

For those of you that don't know me, let me start by telling you: I love Mexican food. Some may say there is no such thing as authentic Mexican food in Southern Oregon, to which I say: I don't care. There is some very delicious food being made at local Mexican restaurants. I'm not an expert in authenticity; I'm just an expert in deliciocity (yes, that is a made-up word, destined to hit Merriam-Webster's 2020 edition of the dictionary). Now, here are my two favorites, in order of my ranking:

1. Lupita's Taqueria (corner of 7th and E, Grants Pass)
     Lupita's is a must-try for any local or out-of-towner (basically, everyone should try it). They have outstanding fish tacos, monstrous 2 POUND burritos, and excellent tamales. However, the one thing that everyone needs to try is the Nachos Lupita. They are, hands-down, the best nachos in Southern Oregon. I get them without jalapeños because I'm a pansy, but these nachos are phenomenal. Part of what I love about Lupita's is the format of the restaurant; there is a walk-up window for ordering and picnic tables next to the building to sit down with friends and enjoy. All menu items come in "to-go" containers, making it very easy to just take your food to the park or some such thing if you prefer. Additionally, Lupita is a very nice woman whom always has a smile on her face, and she and her husband make all meals to order. This restaurant is truly a diamond in the rough, and I feel anyone who enjoys Mexican food needs to try it.
 
2. Taqueria Mexico (on H St between the Rogue Theatre and Savannah Faire)
    For those who prefer a more traditional dining environment, Taqueria Mexico is a fantastic choice. The menu is very similar, if not the same, as Si Casa Flores, but this is still my second favorite because of the warm atmosphere and friendly staff. I feel like family every time I go into this restaurant. I am always greeted promptly and warmly, and the wait time is never too bad. Most people in Grants Pass don't know about this little place mainly because of its big brothers, Si Casa Flores and Flores' Tacos Locos. One can expect the same caliber food at any of the three, but the quality of the experience is best at Taqueria. Side note: all meals taste best accompanied by a Roy Royers (before you try to correct my spelling, check your receipt).

If you live in Grants Pass, or are just stopping for a visit, you owe it to yourself to give one of these two a shot (if you like Mexican food, of course). Both of these places are palate pleasers with cheery, friendly staff. So if you get a chance, stop by, tell 'em the mucho grande gringo with curly hair sent you, and enjoy.
